In an article released Thursday, September 22nd 2011, Penn state researches announced that they have discovered a virus that can effectively kill 100% of breast cancer cells within 7 days.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer int he world and the leading cause of cancer related death in women. The virus: Adeno-associated virus type 2 (AAV2) is common in humans but rarely causes disease. Researchers are currently trying to learn how the virus attacks and destroys the cancer cells so they can potentially duplicate the same effect in a theraputic.
Professor of microbiology and immunology, Craig Meyers is quoted as saying “Because it has multiple stages, you can’t treat all the women the same. Currently, treatment of breast cancer is dependent on multiple factors such as hormone-dependency, invasiveness and metastases, drug resistance and potential toxicities. Our study shows that AAV2, as a single entity, targets all different grades of breast cancer.”
Promising outlook for cancer, but still begs the question, why not focus more on just how to not get it in the first place?……
